# Frequently asked questions

Short answers about what ccr-cloud is and how it works. Each links to the details.

## What is ccr-cloud?

ccr-cloud is open-source, self-hosted software for running Claude Code tasks on your
own Linux server and controlling them from a browser or phone. You start a task,
close your laptop, and later read its progress, answer its approval requests and
send follow-ups. It's MIT licensed and free.

## How is it different from SSH and tmux?

ccr-cloud runs on top of tools like tmux rather than replacing them. It adds a
structured task workflow: each task gets its own Git worktree and branch, approval
requests show the exact command with Allow and Deny buttons, every task keeps a
replayable history, and the interface works on a phone. See
[How it works](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/how-it-works/).

## Do I need Docker, Claude Code Router or a new API key?

No. In the default host mode, tasks use the Claude Code login and Git credentials
your server account already has. Docker and
[Claude Code Router](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/switch-models/) are optional. See
[Getting started](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/getting-started/).

## Does closing my laptop or browser stop a task?

No. Tasks run on the server and keep going when the browser, phone or SSH tunnel
disconnects. Reconnecting replays what happened. A server reboot does stop tasks;
see [Failure and recovery](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/reliability/).

## Can I approve commands from my phone?

Yes. When Claude asks for permission, the task shows the tool and the exact command
with Allow once and Deny buttons, and an optional push notification tells you it's
waiting. See [Run and control tasks](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/tasks/) and
[Notifications](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/notifications/).

## How do I reach my server from my phone?

Use Tailscale for private access, a Cloudflare tunnel on your own domain, or a VPN
you already run. ccr-cloud never needs ports opened to the internet. See
[Access from your phone](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/remote-access/).

## Is a task sandboxed?

Not in host mode. A host task can do anything your server account can, so run
ccr-cloud as a dedicated account with only the access you want the agent to have.
Docker mode runs each task in a locked-down container. See
the [Security model](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/security/).

## Which coding agents does it support?

Claude Code is currently the supported task agent.

## Can I use other models, such as open-source ones?

Yes, through Claude Code Router. Each task can use your Claude account or a CCR
gateway that routes to another provider, which is useful while you're at a Claude
usage limit. See [Switch models with CCR](https://ccr-cloud.uubright.com/docs/switch-models/).

## Does my code or data go to a ccr-cloud service?

No. ccr-cloud is software you run; there's no hosted ccr-cloud service in the path.
Model requests go to Claude, or to whichever provider you configure in CCR.
Optional integrations you turn on, such as Discord or a Cloudflare tunnel, see the
content they carry.

## Can several people share one server?

No. ccr-cloud has a single owner and one owner token. Don't give the token to people
you wouldn't give the server account to.
